After three intense day one flights, the 2010 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event has been announced, the Main Event has attracted a field of 746 entrants creating a staggering $7.46M AUD prize pool. The Aussie Millions Champion will take home an enormous $2M AUD in prize money and the coveted championship ring! Second place wont go home empty handed and will take with them $1.1M AUD
The Crown Poker room has been packed to the rafters with an array of the world’s best poker players such as Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Billy ‘The Cros’ Argyros, Gus Hansen, Barr Greenstein, Erick Lindgren, Howard Lederer and Jesse Metcalfe from the hit TV show Desperate Housewives.
Some of Melbourne’s most famous faces brought their best poker face to the tables on Day 1b of the Main Event, such as cricketing legend Shane Warne who was joined by fellow cricketer Dimitri Mascarenhas, another keen poker player was boxing world champion Jeff Fenech and the ever so funny Hamish and Andy from Fox FM. Unfortunately most bust early.
Day 1c saw the 2009 Aussie Millions Poker Champion Stewart Scott hit the felt, unfortunately he was unable to make it back-to-back,Steve Topakas, Joeal Dodds and Tony G all had a good day.
The $100k Challenge took place in Studio 3 at Crown, for the first time ever keen poker players had the chance to sit in the all exclusive gallery and witness one of the most exciting games to date. Phill Ivey and Dan Shak were the final two left to battle it out for the title , it was Shak who overcame one of the toughest fields taking home a staggering $1.2M AUD and a 2010 Aussie Millions Championship ring. Ivey didn’t leave empty handed in second place and took with him $600,000AUD while Aussie Bill Jordanou took $300,000AUD in third place. Tony G made it to fifth place.
It was lights camera action over the star-studded final table in Event 7, $1,150 No Limit Holdem with Rebuys. Mike Watson won the title and took with him $129,920AUD. The Australian support was behind cricket superstar Shane Warne, however he was first to go running his pocket queens into Gary Benson’s pocket kings. Defending Champion Stewart Scott fell in fifth place and James Obst exited in fourth place.
